Eili Harboe (Thelma) and Alba August (Becoming Astrid) have been selected by European Film Promotion (EFP) for Shooting Stars 2018, an annual showcase for ten young and promising European actors at the Berlin International Film Festival, which will take place 15th – 25th February 2018.
During the Berlin International Film Festival, the ten Shooting Stars will undertake a weekend of profile-raising workshops and events, with influential members of the International Casting Directors Network (ICDN), film and television agents and filmmakers, alongside interviews and photo-shoots with international media.
The jury said of Eili Harboe’s performance in Thelma: “Eili shows a fascinating and impressive range as an actor, which really impressed the jurors. She bravely allows us insight into a character who seeks personal freedom… With skill far beyond her years, she combines a haunting vulnerability with a luminous and striking expression of mystery and inner strength.”
Meanwhile, the jury said of Alba August in Becoming Astrid: “With an abundance of intuition and curiosity, Alba won over the jury with her convincing portrayal… Alba’s performance on screen is as sensible and deep as it is unpredictable, imbuing the character with an inner life that allows us to explore the woman behind the writer.”
Previous winners of the Shooting Stars award, which is now in its 21st year, include: Iben Hjejle (1999), Daniel Craig (2000), Daniel Brühl (2003), Nikolaj Lie Kaas (2003), Carey Mulligan (2009), Alicia Vikander (2010), Atli Óskar Fjalarsson (2016) and Esben Smed (2017).
