During an interview on chat show Skavlan, Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju (Beck) has revealed that the voice of his Game Of Thrones character, Tormund Giantsbane, is based on Leonard Cohen.
Kristofer Hivju said that, during his first season on Game Of Thrones, there were many scenes filmed in the wind and rain. The weather conditions were so severe that his recordings were inaudible, and so he had to dub the entire season again in post production.
However, Hivju was not entirely satisfied with the original voice of Tormund, so took the opportunity to change it during the dubbing process to one inspired by his idol, Leonard Cohen.
He explained during the interview: “I’ve been a Leonard Cohen fan since I was 10 years old. I thought of the lyric ‘Then we take Berlin’. Then I thought, ‘Cohen. We’re doing Cohen ‘. Then I dubbed the whole season with that mind.”
