Viaplay has unveiled a trailer with English subtitles for First Responders (Åreakuten), its forthcoming relationship-oriented drama about the emergency services, starring Nadja Halid (Senses), Göran Gillinger (Maria Wern), Mårten Svedberg (Johan Falk), Karin Bengtsson and Tiril Wishman Eeg-Henriksen.
Filmed around the Åre ski resort, the series follows the daily lives of hospital, police and rescue personnel in the beautiful yet sometimes hazardous Swedish mountains – where the heady altitudes set the scene for equally dramatic emotional highs and lows.
Nadja Halid said: “This is my biggest role so far in my career and I will always be forever grateful that Viaplay and SF Studios have dared to invest in me. This is not something I take for granted, since the Swedish film industry is very white-dominated.”
“It is difficult as a black actor to break through and get to play the roles that white actors usually get. We need to see black people in all types of media roles. Representation is such an incredibly important issue, not least in these times. I have honestly waited my whole life to talk about this.”
First Responders, directed by Richard Jarnhed (Black Lake) and Lena Koppel, premieres 28th June on Viaplay across the Nordic region.
