Walter Presents The River To UK, US and Australia

Eight-part Norwegian thriller The River (Elven) has been sold to six territories, including curated streaming service Walter Presents for the UK, US and Australia.

The River is set in Northern Norway, where the Cold War never ended. In the close-knit village of Djupelv, everyone knows not to ask too many questions.

However, things change when a little girl finds the remains of a body while out playing. The family doesn’t want to get involved so tip off the police anonymously, but later that day the girl mysteriously disappears.

Recently arrived police officer Thomas Lønnhøiden (Espen Reboli Bjerke) hates lies and secrets, and refuses to let things lie despite repeated warnings, but as he begins to investigate the little girl’s disappearance he awakens some very dangerous forces.

Managing Director of Walter Presents, Walter Iuzzolino, said: “The River is an outstanding new Nordic series – dark, elegant, and utterly compelling and its setting on the border between Norway and Russia brings a powerful and unusual narrative edge to the story.”

“This is an A-list piece which takes the Scandi genre to a new height, and we are delighted to have secured it across all of Walter Presents’ English-speaking territories: UK, US and Australia.”

The River has also been sold to ZDF in Germany, Canal Plus in Poland and Yandex in Russia.
