A Man Named Ove Makes Swedish Film History

A Man Named Ove (En man som heter Ove), directed by Hannes Holm and starring Rolf Lassgård, has become the fifth most viewed Swedish film since records began in 1963, with 1,585,348 tickets sold so far.
Not only has A Man Named Ove won three Guldbagge awards and been credited with rescuing Swedish cinema from a record low in 2015, but it has also laid waste to Hollywood blockbusters such as the new Star Wars movie (1.2 million) and Spectre (882,320).
Given that it is still playing in Swedish cinemas there is every reason to believe that Ove’s position in the record books may yet increase, but until then, here are the top ten Swedish films since 1963…
1. Sällskapsresan (1980) – 2,038,589
2. Att angöra en brygga (1965) – 1,955,725
