Acorn TV has picked up the UK, US and Canadian rights to the first season of CMore crime thriller Bäckström, adapted from the novel Can You Die Twice? by author and criminologist Leif GW Persson.
Homicide detective Evert Bäckström (Kjell Bergqvist) finds his skills put to the test when a skull pierced with bullet holes is found on an uninhabited island in the Swedish archipelago, and DNA results confirm that it belongs to a victim of the 2004 tsunami in Thailand.
The cast also includes Agnes Lindström Bolmgren as Bäckström’s colleague Ankan Carlsson and Helen Sjöholm as PR genius Tina, alongside Livia Millhagen, Linus Wahlgren, Jens Hultén, Johan Widerberg, Pekka Strang, Filip Berg, Peshang Rad and Anders Mossling.
Bäckström begins streaming on Acorn TV in the UK from 8th February and in North America this Spring. A second season, based on the novel The Sword of Justice has already been commissioned by C More and is expected to begin filming in the Spring.
