As filming begins, Netflix has announced that Adam Pålsson (Before We Die) will lead the cast of Young Wallander, a six-part serialised drama based on the novels by Henning Mankell, which explores the early years of iconic detective Kurt Wallander.
Set in contemporary Sweden, the series follows Kurt Wallander (Adam Pålsson) as he investigates his first case. The story focuses on Kurt’s formative experiences, at both a personal and professional level, as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties.
The cast also includes Richard Dillane (Wolf Hall) as Superintendent Hemberg), Leanne Best (Line Of Duty) as Frida Rask, Ellise Chappell (Poldark) as Mona, Yasen Atour (Marcella) as Reza, and Jacob Collins-Levy (The White Princess) as Karl-Axel Munck.
Adam Pålsson said: “I couldn’t be more honoured and thrilled to have the opportunity to play the young Kurt Wallander, and to explore the defining events in the life of this complex, driven protagonist, created by the brilliant Henning Mankell. With a terrific cast and creative team, I have every confidence that our new version will resonate both in Sweden and with audiences worldwide.”
Young Wallander, directed by Ole Endresen and Jens Jonsson, will premiere on Netflix in 2020.
