Agnes Joy Represents Iceland In Oscar Race

The Icelandic Film and TV Academy has selected Agnes Joy by Silja Hauksdóttir as its submission for Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards in April.

The film follows Rannveig, who is stuck in a job she hates and a dying marriage. Moreover, she constantly fights with her rebellious daughter, Agnes, and can’t face the possibility that she will eventually grow up and leave her behind. But when a new neighbour shows up at their doorstep, Rannveig and family face new challenges that are beyond their control.

Representing Iceland in the Oscar race is just the latest accolade for Agnes Joy which recently won six Edda awards including Best Film, Best Script, Best Actress for Katla Margrét Þorgeirsdóttir and Best Supporting Actor for Björn Hlynur Haraldsson.

The 93rd Academy Awards will be presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences during a gala ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday 25th April 2021. A shortlist of ten films will be announced by the Academy on 9th February and the final five nominees will be revealed on 15th March 2021.
