Young detective Lauri Raiha is assigned to investigate two murders in his conservative childhood home Varjakka, in northern Finland, with his hedonistic senior partner, Sanna Tervo.
While the townspeople search for a missing father, both Lauri battles ghosts from the past while Sanna makes a surprising contact, and the mood in the town suddenly becomes tense.
Lauri makes a breakthrough in the case and consoles a shell-shocked Sanna who has received news that she has been dreading. Violence mounts while the religious community grieves.
Lauri and Sanna deliver sad news as the killer diverts attention. Meanwhile, a surprise visitor brings hope of change to Lauri, but a strange accident by the sea brings the media to Varjakka.
Lauri journeys into the past as a rift grows between the detectives and Sanna’s whole life’s upended. Are there in fact two killers, fighting a common enemy?
The religious community is assembled, and Lauri’s old, deeply hidden scars are brought back to the surface. Sanna must relive a past trauma. Is forgiveness or redemption even possible
