Variety reports that Amazon Studios is developing an English language series based on the ever resourceful hacker Lisbeth Salander from the Millennium books by Stieg Larsson, which were continued with a second trilogy by David Lagercrantz upon his death.
The series is described as being neither a sequel nor a continuation of the story from the books or the films, but will instead place Salander in a new setting in today’s world with a new story. However, its working title is taken from the first book in the original trilogy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Män som hatar kvinnor).
Casting has yet to be announced, but three very different actresses have played Lisbeth Salander so far. Noomi Rapace was the first incarnation for the original Swedish trilogy, while Rooney Mara took over for David Fincher’s 2011 Hollywood remake, and Claire Foy took the reigns for the 2018 adaptation of The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
