Vera has lived a seemingly comfortable life, with a husband, house, children, and an OK job. Then she loses everything in one blow. Vera’s husband leaves her for another woman, she loses her job, and her home is to be sold.

Desperately seeking a new job, Vera receives a single reply: an office job in the small town of Ängelby. It will be her chance to start over. Almost without thinking, she packs the kids into the car and takes off.

Just before she reaches Ängelby it happens; She runs over a boy. In a state of shock, she says that it was she who killed the boy – but was it?

Vera has barely entered the village when she becomes the centre of a murder mystery that raises many questions. What is Ängelby? And what is the villagers’ relationship with the large stone that stands just outside the village?
