Another Round Dominates Bodil Awards

Another Round was the big winner of the night as the Danish film industry physically gathered together for the first time since the corona pandemic to celebrate the 74th Bodil Awards (Bodilprisen), which took place at the Folketeatret in Copenhagen in a ceremony hosted by Emma Sehested Høeg.

Oscar winning feature Another Round (Druk) scooped the prize for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Screenplay, marking the third time that director Thomas Vinterberg has been honoured at the Bodil Awards with Best Film, and also the third time that Mads Mikkelsen’s performance has been rewarded with Best Actor.

The jury said of Another Round: “A nation’s soul can’t be encapsulated in a single film, but if it could then it would be Another Round. This film is groundbreaking… It embraces the ambivalence of the characters’ experiment, it dares to stand by both the beautiful and the sad. And then Thomas Vinterberg creates unforgettable, cinematic magic with the open final scene, which must go down in Danish film history as one of the most beautiful ever.”

The other big winner at this year’s Bodil Awards was feature film debutant Malou Reymann’s A Perfectly Normal Family (En helt almindelig familie) which was nominated in four categories and went on to received awards for Best Actress, which went to 13-year-old Kaya Toft Loholt, as well as the Arbejdernes Landsbank Talent Award for director Malou Reymann.
