Becoming Astrid Selected For Berlinale Special Gala

Pernille Fischer Christensen’s biopic Becoming Astrid (Unga Astrid), about celebrated children’s author Astrid Lindgren (Pippi Longstocking), will receive its World premiere during the Berlinale Special Gala at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival (15-25 February).

Becoming Astrid is the story of when young Astrid Lindgren (Alba August), despite the expectations of her time and religious upbringing, decided to break free from society’s norms and follow her heart.

When Astrid Lindgren was very young something happened that affected her profoundly, granting her an in-depth insight into children’s souls. This combination of both miracle and calamity came to shape her entire life, and that transformed her into one of the most inspiring women of our age and the storyteller a whole world would come to love.

Alba August was recently honoured with a place in the Shooting Stars showcase for her role in Becoming Astrid. The jury said: “Alba’s performance on screen is as sensible and deep as it is unpredictable, imbuing the character with an inner life that allows us to explore the woman behind the writer.”
