Below The Surface Season Two Now In Development

The Danish Film Institute Public Service Fund has granted 800,000 kroner in support to develop a second season of Kanal 5 thriller Below The Surface (Gidseltagningen).
In the first season of Below The Surface. fifteen people are held hostage in a subway train, and a terror taskforce led by Philip Norgaard (Johannes Lassen) and Louise Falk (Sara Hjort Ditlevsen) is dispatched to rescue them.
Meanwhile, reporter Naja Toft (Paprika Steen) acts as a go-between with the hostages and police and, as the media frenzy takes hold, the country becomes divided on whether to negotiate with the terrorists or not.
There are currently no details regarding the storyline for season two, but Kanal 5 parent company Discovery Networks has confirmed that it is in development, although further funding is still required ‘to bring it to fruition.
Head Of Programming for Discovery Networks, Anne Garlichs, said: “We have an exciting, innovative plot in development based on a strong idea from lead writer Jesper Bernt (The Team) supported by executive producer Adam Price (Borgen).”
“We hope that funding will be successful in order to bring Danes a new season of Below The Surface following the great reception of its first season.”
