Bille August Boards Real Life WWI Drama

Oscar winner Bille August (Pelle The Conqueror) is set to direct A War Of Their Own, written by Kate Wood and Martin Dewitte based on the true story of World War One heroines Elsie Knocker and Mairi Chisholm.

The summer of 1914. A world goes to war. As do two young English motorcycle enthusiasts, divorced single mother Elsie Knocker and tomboy beauty Mairi Chisholm. Together they decide to join the war effort, becoming ambulance drivers and nurses on the Western Front in Belgium.

Four years later they return to England highly decorated, with one married and the other bereaved. Both of them scarred by the horrors that they witnessed and endured, but enriched by the courage and fortitude they found in themselves and in others.

Producer Alice De Sousa told Deadline: “My fellow producers and I are pleased to be collaborating… on this prestigious film which focuses on the often overlooked contribution that women made during the WWI, the war which was intended to end all wars.”
