Bonus Family Begins Filming Season Three Next Year

SVT has announced that filming will begin in April 2018 for a third season of comedy drama Bonus Family (Bonusfamiljen), which averaged 1.3 million viewers when season one aired earlier this year.

Bonus Family, created by Felix Herngren (The 100 Year-Old Man) along with his wife Clara and and his sister Moa, revolves around two families and the complications that arise in their attempt to form a new family dynamic following divorce, such as raising each others’ kids and coping with exes.

Pontus Edgren, Managing Partner at FLX who produce Bonus Family, told Variety: “In Sweden, which surely is one of the most politically-correct countries in the world, we don’t say step-dad or step-mom anymore because it has a negative connotation; instead we say ‘bonus dad’ or ‘bonus mom’.”

The format has been sold to the United States, France and Germany, and Netflix has bought second window rights to the first two seasons of the Swedish version which means that it will be presented as a Netflix Original outside of Scandinavia when it arrives later this year.

Bonus Family season two, which welcomes Regina Lund and Dragomir Mrsic to the cast, premieres January 2018 on SVT.
