Borgen Season Four Casting Revealed

Netflix has announced casting for season four of Danish political thriller Borgen, with Sidse Babett Knudsen and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen to return in the lead roles. The new outing is written by series creator Adam Price with Per Fly (Follow The Money) on board as conceptual director.
Season four revisits Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen), who is now Foreign Minister, along with her staff and the media tasked with covering her. Meanwhile, Katrine Fønsmark (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen) has returned to journalism after a stint as Birgitte’s head of press, and has landed a job as news director for a major TV channel.
Sidse Babett Knudsen said: “You have to be careful with what you say, but I have sky-high expectations for this project. And most of all, I look forward to becoming Birgitte Nyborg again. What a privilege to be allowed to take another ride on the carousel with this role that I love so much.”
Also joining the show this season are Mikkel Boe Følsgaard (The Legacy) as Asger Holm Kirkegaard, who works closely with Birgitte Nyborg, and Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen (The Rain) as Nyborg’s son, Magnus. Other new cast members include Simon Bennebjerg, Johanne Louise Schmidt, Magnus Millang and Özlem Saglanmak.
Meanwhile, the returning cast includes Søren Malling as Torben Friis, Signe Egholm Olsen as Anne Sophie Lindenkrone, Mikael Birkkjær as Philip Christensen, Lisbeth Wulff as Pia Munk, Lars Mikkelsen as Søren Ravn, Laura Allen Müller Smith as Nadia Barazani, Jens Albinus as Jon Berthelsen and Kasper Lange as Dan Vestergaard.
DR Head Of Drama, Christian Rank, said: “We want to make the series’ universe up-to-date, new and exciting while remaining true to the qualities that have made Borgen so popular around the world. With the great acting skills that we have gathered here, we have already taken an important step towards succeeding in that ambition.”
Borgen season four is slated to premiere in 2022 on DR1 in Denmark before a global launch on Netflix.
