TV4 and C More have picked up the TV rights to develop Hans Rosenfeldt’s crime thriller, When Crying Wolf (Vargasommar). The first in this planned series of novels by the creator of Marcella and The Bridge was published this Autumn, and its sequel is planned for Autumn 2022.
When human remains are found in the stomach of a dead wolf, middle-aged police officer Hannah Wester knows that this summer won’t be like any other. The remains can soon be linked to a bloody drug deal across the border in Finland. But how did the victim end up in the woods outside of Haparanda? And where have the drugs and money gone?
Hannah and her colleagues leave no stone unturned. But time is scarce and they aren’t the only ones looking. When the secretive and deadly Katja shows up, unexpected and brutal events start to pile up. In just a few days, life in Haparanda is turned upside down. Not least for Hannah, who is finally forced to confront her own past.
Hans Rosenfeldt said: “I am thrilled for TV4 and C More to believe in When Crying Wolf to the extent of wanting to adapt it to a TV series. The story means a lot to me and I am truly excited to, in a creative collaboration, return to Haparanda, showcase Hannah Wester, Katja and the other characters from the book to a different platform and hopefully reach an even bigger audience on a global scale.”
Head of Drama for C More and TV4, Josefine Tengblad, added: “Hans has a long track record of creating captivating stories for an international and Swedish audience. He is an amazing author, one of the best in the world in his field. We have had the pleasure of working with Hans before and it feels fantastic to be able to do it again with this exciting project.”
