CBS Adapts Ragnar Jónasson Thriller The Darkness

CBS Studios has announced an eight-part adaptation of Ragnar Jónasson’s best-selling Icelandic thriller The Darkness.

When Detective Inspector Hulda Hermannsdóttir of the Reykjavik police is forced into early retirement, she is told that she can investigate one last cold case of her choice, and she knows which one. A young Russian woman looking for asylum was found washed up on the beach, but the case was quietly closed after a hasty investigation deemed it to be suicide.

Soon Hulda discovers that another young woman vanished at the same time, and that no one is telling her the whole story. Even her colleagues in the police seem determined to put the brakes on her investigation. The clock is ticking but Hulda will find the killer, even if it means putting her own life in danger.

Meghan Lyvers, Senior Vice President of International Co-Productions and Development at CBS Studios, told Deadline: “Wonderful content will always stand out, regardless of origin, and The Darkness is a reflection of that fact.”
