China Producing Real Humans In Shanghai

Starring Ray Ma and Stephy Qi, filming has just begun on a Mandarin remake of UK sci-fi drama Humans, which in turn is a remake of the Swedish original Real Humans (Äkta människor).
Humans is set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a Synth – a highly developed robotic servant that is eerily similar to its live counterpart.
In the hope of transforming the way in which they live, one strained suburban family purchase a refurbished synth only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences, exploring what it really means to be human.
Deadline reports that Kudos, who produce Humans, and Matador, who produced Real Humans, are actively involved in the remake by Endemol Shine which will retain the sinister narrative of the English-language version.
Managing Director of Endemol Shine China, William Tan, said: “Having enlisted both UK and Chinese writers it’s truly a collaborative venture. Sci-fi drama is an under represented genre across the region and we really believe that this new take will set a new trend.”
