Clara Sola Best Film At 2022 Guldbagge Awards

Clara Sola, the debut feature by Costa Rican / Swedish filmmaker Nathalie Álvarez Mesen, was named Best Film at the 2022 Guldbagge Awards in Stockholm on Monday, celebrating outstanding achievements in the Swedish film industry.
With five wins, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Script, Clara Sola is a sensual tale about a withdrawn 40-year-old woman who experiences a sexual and mystical awakening as she begins a journey to free herself from the repressive religious and social conventions which have dominated her life.
Nathalie Álvarez Mesen said in her acceptance speech: “It’s wonderful that I get to be here among so many colleagues that I look up to. Thank you. I hope that this film encourages us to break this damn patriarchal legacy that we carry with us.”
“Thanks to everyone who read the script in the early stages and gave feedback. I feel that we have come a long way when it comes to diversity, but certain mechanisms have been required for this to happen and I hope that these will not disappear. Diversity is quality. Hurrah for Swedish Film!”
