Compartment No 6 Nominated For Three European Film Awards

Finland’s submission for the 94th Academy Awards, Compartment No 6 (Hytti nro 6) directed by Juho Kuosmanen, has been nominated for Best Film at the 34th European Film Awards, facing competition from Quo Vadis, Aida?, The Father, The Hand of God and Titane.

Compartment No 6, which is also nominated for Best Actor (Yuriy Borisov) and Best Actress (Seidi Haarla), is set against the backdrop of 1980s Soviet Union and follows a young Finnish woman who flees a love triangle to take the Trans Siberian Railway. She is forced to share her journey with a Russian miner who hates the world, but the long journey brings them closer and changes their perspective on life.

Meanwhile, Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World (Verdens verste menneske) is nominated for Best Script and Best Actress (Renate Reinsve). The film follows Julie who is struggling to find a direction in life so leaves her boyfriend in the hope of something meaningful. However, a year later she learns that he has become seriously ill so visits him in hospital where a new honesty emerges.

Elsewhere, Yngvild Sve Flikke’s Ninjababy, about an aspiring astronaut and cartoonist who faces motherhood sooner than expected, has been nominated for Best Comedy while Denmark’s submission for the Oscars, Flee (Flugt) directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, appears in the categories Best Documentary and Best Animated Feature for its portrayal of a child refugee’s journey from Afghanistan.

More than 4,100 European Film Academy members will now vote for the winners who will be announced during an awards ceremony on 11th December in Berlin. Here are the nominees in full…
