Cop Secret To Compete At Locarno

Icelandic soccer hero Hannes Thór Halldórsson‘s directorial debut feature, Cop Secret (Leynilögga), has been invited to compete for the Golden Leopard in the main competition at the 74th Locarno Film Festival (4th – 14th August).

Cop Secret follows a tough supercop in denial about his sexuality who falls in love with his new partner while investigating a string of bank robberies where nothing seems to have been stolen.

The cast includes Audunn Blöndal, Egill Einarsson, Steinunn Ólína Thorsteinsdóttir, Vivian Ólafsdóttir, Sverrir Thór Sverrisson, and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson.

Hannes Thór Halldórsson said: “It’s been both a very challenging and very fun process with a great group of people. I’m still realizing that the film has been chosen for the festival and I look forward to showing it there. I’m even more excited to show it here in Iceland at the end of August.”

Producer, Lilja Ósk Snorradóttir, added: “To premiere the film at a prestigious festival like Locarno is a special honor for all of us connected to the film. There have been so few festivals because of COVID, and an unusually high number of films trying to get into festivals, so it’s a great honor just to be chosen.”
