Danish Hostage Drama Dropped After Stockholm Atrocity

Discovery Networks has announced that Gidseltagningen (Below The Surface), which was set to premiere on DPlay in Norway on Sunday April 9th, is postponed until further notice due to the terrorist atrocity in Stockholm on Friday.

Gidseltagningen, created by Kasper Barfoed (Summer Of ’92) based on an idea by Adam Price (Borgen) and Søren Sveistrup (The Killing), portrays the hijacking of a Copenhagen subway carriage where three armed terrorists kidnap the fifteen passengers on board.

The series then follows a protracted hostage situation over eight days where the government refuses to pay the ransom, and how the ensuing media coverage shapes events. Johannes Lassen takes the lead as former soldier Philip Nørgaard who heads the Terror Task Force, and Paprika Steen plays news anchor Naja Toft.

Hanne McBride, Media Manager for Discovery Networks Norway, told Dagbladet: “I’m not sure when it will air. We are waiting to see what happens in Stockholm. This was supposed to be our Easter focus on DPlay. It might yet go ahead, but if so it will be later in the Easter holidays.”
