Denmark Announces The Guilty For Oscar Race

The Danish Oscar Committee has announced that Gustav Möller’s debut feature, The Guilty (Den skyldige), will be its submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.

When police officer Asger Holm (Jakob Cedergren) is demoted to desk work, he expects a sleepy shift as an emergency dispatcher. But that all changes when he answers a distressed call from a kidnapped woman who abruptly disconnects.

Asger, confined to the police station, is forced to use others as his eyes and ears as the severity of the crime slowly unfolds. As he searches for the missing woman and her assailant, a ticking clock and his own personal demons conspire against him.

The Guilty won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and has been sold to 90 countries including the United States, England, Italy, France, Spain, Germany and China.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce its final five nominees for Best Foreign Language Film on 22nd January, with the Oscars taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on 24th February 2019.
