Denmark Sends Queen Of Hearts To Oscars

The Danish Oscar Committee has announced that Queen Of Hearts (Dronningen), directed by May el-Toukhy, will be its submission for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Queen Of Hearts follows dedicated lawyer Anne (Trine Dyrholm), happily married to doctor Peter (Magnus Krepper) with whom she has two daughters. But when teenage stepson Gustav (Gustav Lindh) moves in with them, Anne’s escalating desire jeopardises both her family and career.
The jury said in their deliberation: “A story of power, passion and denial, Queen Of Hearts offers a startling new perspective on current discussions.”
“With a superior grasp of cinematic language, director May el-Toukhy and screenwriter Maren Louise Käehne have created an uncompromising, engaging drama resonating with international audiences and critics alike, as evidenced by the film winning the coveted Audience Award at Sundance.”
“Much of the credit goes to Trine Dyrholm for her stellar performance – a compelling example of a complex female character we would love to see a lot more of on the big screen.”
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the final five nominations for Best International Feature Film on 13th January, with the Oscar to be presented during a gala ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on 9th February 2020.
