DFI Launches Carl Dreyer Learning Resource

The Danish Film Institute has launched a new online learning portal aimed at providing high school students with an introduction to one of the country’s most important film makers, Carl Theodor Dreyer.

Carl Theodor Dreyer’s (Ordet) body of work revolutionised the language of film, from his debut in the 1920s through to his last work in 1964, and has inspired directors as diverse as Lars von Trier, Guillermo Del Toro, Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut.

Now, the Dreyer collection at carlthdreyer.dk presents an opportunity to immerse oneself in his world and explore Dreyer’s far-reaching influence through a collection of original manuscripts, photos, research material, interviews, photographs, over 4000 letters and more.

Although relevant to all, the material is targeted at high school students with an emphasis on Dreyer’s influence on film today, such as the use of close-ups, and shines a spotlight on eight of his most important films which are available to view free of charge for those with a UNI account.
