Finland Selects Compartment No.6 For Oscars

The Finnish Oscar Committee has announced that Juho Kuosmanen’s Cannes Grand Prix winner Compartment No.6, based on the novel by Rosa Liksom, will be its entry for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
Set against the backdrop of 1980s Soviet Union, Compartment No 6 (Hytti nro 6) follows a young Finnish woman (Seidi Haarla) who flees a love triangle to take the Trans Siberian Railway to the arctic port of Murmansk. She is forced to share her journey with a Russian miner who hates the world, but the long journey through the snow brings them closer and changes their perspective on life.
The 94th Academy Awards will be presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences during a gala ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday 27th March 2022. A shortlist of fifteen films will be announced by the Academy on 21st December 2021 and the final five nominees will be revealed on 8th February 2022.
