Follow Up Announced To Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves

Jonas Gardell has announced that the script for his new project has been submitted and will feature some of the same characters as Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves (Torka Aldrig Tårar Utan Handskar).

Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves was a three part mini series which focused on young gay men during the AIDS epidemic in 1980s Stockholm, and earned a Kristallen award in 2013 for Best TV Drama. It told the story of Rasmus, who leaves the small town and bigotry of Koppom for Stockholm, where the worldly-wise Paul takes him under his wing. Through Paul, Rasmus meets the love of his life Benjamin and together they are happy, but the shadow of AIDS looms over Stockholm.

“It’s not a sequel, in that it’s the same characters, but there are some themes about the fragility of life, the mixture between the present and the past and there is a fairly large ensemble that is common to it and Never Wipe Tears,” Gardell told Aftonbladet.

“What it is about, I cannot talk about, but if all goes well it will be made for SVT by the same team that made Never Wipe Tears Without Gloves, with Simon Kaijser as director and Maria Nordenberg as producer. Also the title is a secret.”

“It will be extremely exciting because it’s a project that I’ve put my lifeblood into,” said Gardell.
