Gabriela Pichler’s Amateurs Opens Göteborg Festival

The world premiere of Gabriela Pichler’s second feature, Amateurs (Amatörer), will open the Göteborg Film Festival (26th January – 5th February) where it will compete against Lisa Langseth’s Euphoria and Hlynur Pálmason’s Winter Brothers in the Nordic Competition.

In Amateurs, the small town of Lafors hopes to reverse its economic drought by attracting a German discount supermarket, and local teenagers are asked to produce films to promote the area.

Unfortunately, the films don’t turn out quite as expected, so the project is called off, but two young girls decide to continue working on their documentary regardless.

Gabriela Pichler’s debut feature Eat Sleep Die won the Audience Award at Venice Film Festival’s Critic’s Week and four Guldbagge Awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay.
