Gåsmamman Sets Ratings Record For Kanal 5

The first episode of Gåsmamman which aired Thursday on Kanal 5 attracted 725,000 viewers, making it the highest rating for a Swedish-produced drama on the channel since 1998. The previous record was held by Vänner & Fiender (Friends & Enemies) with 427,000.

Gåsmamman (Mother Goose) marks the third record this week for Kanal 5. On Monday, Sofias Änglar (Sofia’s Angels) achieved a season best of 415 000 viewers, and on Wednesday Arga Snickaren VIP (Angry Carpenter VIP) enjoyed a new season high of 550,000.

“We are back with a vengeance,” says Calle Jansson, Channel Director at Discovery Networks Sweden. “This is fantastic news and creates even more positivity around Discovery Networks’ focus on Swedish-produced drama.”

In an interview with the Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Kanal 5’s Head of Drama, Jon Petersson, echoed this sentiment with some very good news for fans of Gåsmamman:

“We are so pleased with Gåsmamman that we already have a second season in development. This is a bold decision and very unusual, but we are totally confident.”

Gåsmamman is based on the hit Dutch series Penoza, and premiered 26th November 2015 on C More. Alexandra Rapaport plays Sonja, who lives with her beloved family in the suburbs and is an accountant for the family business. But one day she is drawn against her will into the criminal underworld in order to save her family.
