In 1836, idealistic young botanist Joseph Wulff leaves for Danish Guinea (Ghana) on the orders of the king of Denmark, leaving the love of his life behind him to set up a coffee plantation. But not everything goes according to plan.

The film is a story of beauty and brutality, inspired by one of the darkest chapters of European colonial history, at a time when the slave trade had officially ended.
