Iceland Selects Woman At War For Oscars

The Icelandic Oscar Committee has announced that its entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards is Woman at War (Kona fer í stríð), directed by Benedikt Erlingsson (Of Horses and Men).
Woman at War follows Halla (Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir), an independent woman who declares war on the local aluminium industry. She resorts to sabotage and is willing to risk everything to protect the Icelandic highlands, until a Ukrainian orphan enters her life.
Since its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won four awards during Critics‘ Week, Woman at War has been shortlisted for the European Film Awards, and received nominations for the Nordic Council Film Prize and the European Parliament‘s LUX Film Prize.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce its final five nominees for Best Foreign Language Film on 22nd January, with the Oscars taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on 24th February 2019.
