Johan Renck To Direct Spaceman Of Bohemia

Swedish director Johan Renck, who recently won Best Director and Best Limited Series for Chernobyl at the 71st Annual Emmy Awards, has signed up to helm the movie adaptation of Jaroslav Kalfař’s novel Spaceman Of Bohemia.

Set in the near-distant future, the story follows a Czech astronaut Jakub Procházka as he launches into space on a heroic suicide mission to investigate a mysterious dust cloud covering Venus, partly as a way to atone for his father’s sins as a Communist informer.

However, in fulfilling his ambition, Jakub leaves behind his devoted wife Lenka, and as the weeks go by their marriage begins to crumble. Alone in deep space, Jakub’s sanity is also put to the test when a possibly imaginary giant alien spider becomes his unlikely companion.

Over philosophical conversations about the nature of love, life, death and bacon, Jakub and the spider form an intense and emotional bond. But is it enough to see him through a clash with secret Russian rivals and return him safely to Earth for a second chance with Lenka?
