Lords Of Chaos To Bring Mayhem To UK And US

Ahead of its British premiere at the BFI London Film Festival next week, Arrow Films has acquired the UK rights to Jonas Åkerlund’s Lords Of Chaos, based on the book by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind about Norwegian black metal band Mayhem.

After the suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin, Mayhem founder Euronymous began to incorporate satanism and murder into the band’s music to sell records. But bassist Varg Vikernes took this too seriously and began burning churches, leading to a feud between the two that resulted in a bloody end.

The cast includes Rory Culkin as Euronymous, Emory Cohen as Varg, and Jack Kilmer as Per Yngve Ohlin, alongside Nordic favourites such as Gustaf Hammarsten (Midnight Sun), Valter Skarsgård (Black Lake) and Jon Øigarden (Mammon).

Director of Content for Arrow, Francesco Simeoni, told Variety: “With its deft handling of the true events and the fabrications required to adapt a work into another medium Jonas Åkerlund has created something that will please both fans and newbies and we look forward to converting the masses to Norwegian Black Metal.”

Lords Of Chaos is slated for a theatrical release in the UK and US in early 2019.
