Mads Mikkelsen Earns Göteborg Dragon Award

Mads Mikkelsen will be presented with the 2019 Nordic Honorary Dragon Award at the 42nd Göteborg Film Festival (25th January – 4th February) where he is to deliver a Master Class and attend the Swedish premiere of Arctic. He will further be honoured by a retrospective of his most acclaimed work.
Since his powerful feature film debut in Pusher, Mads Mikkelsen has been a leading light in Danish cinema with highlights including Flickering Lights, The Green Butchers, and The Hunt for which he won Best Actor at Cannes. Meanwhile he has also built career on the international stage with films such as Casino Royale and Doctor Strange.
Mads Mikkelsen said: “I grew up watching Swedish children’s shows and amazing Swedish films. Back then I had no dreams whatsoever of becoming an actor. So now, to receive the Nordic Honorary Dragon Award feels surreal.”
Festival Artistic Director, Jonas Holmberg, added: “Through his magnetic charisma and densifying presence, Mads Mikkelsen embodies contemporary Danish film… The tension between brutality and vulnerability makes Mads Mikkelsen one of those actors who you just cannot stop watching.”
Previous recipients of the Nordic Honorary Dragon Award are Alicia Vikander (2018), Lone Scherfig (2017), Susanne Bier (2016), Liv Ullmann (2015), and Baltasar Kormákur (2014).
