Mads Mikkelsen Is The Billion Dollar Spy

Mads Mikkelsen is set to star alongside Armie Hammer in Cold War thriller The Billion Dollar Spy, based on the true story of a Soviet Engineer and his CIA handler as detailed in the book of the same name by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David E. Hoffman.

Brad Reid (Armie Hammer) is a fresh arrival at the CIA Moscow bureau when he’s approached by Soviet engineer Adolf Tolkachev (Mads Mikkelsen). Ignoring advice from his bosses that Tolkachev is a KGB plant, Reid develops a unique friendship with the Russian, who seemingly only wants to help his family escape the corruption of the Soviet Union.

Reid’s faith in Tolkachev is rewarded when he hands over a treasure trove of military secrets, altering the balance of power in the Cold War between East and West. But this comes at great personal cost as they struggle with the paranoia of being caught by the KGB, and one day a shocking betrayal puts them in grave danger…

The Billion Dollar Spy, directed by Amma Asante, is slated to go into production next year in Eastern Europe.
