After the tragic death of her husband, Detective Maria Wern moves her young family to Gotland. The police on the idyllic island are used to just dealing with petty crime and speeding tickets, but big city cases seem to follow Maria from Stockholm and a series of high profile murder cases make it difficult for her to change her pace of life.

While struggling to raise two children as a single mother and still mourning her husband’s death, Maria manages to sustain her female perspective and approach to life in a male dominated environment.
