Max Martin Jukebox Musical Heading To West End

A jukebox musical based on the work of Martin Sandberg, known professionally as Max Martin, is in the final stages of development for London’s West End and is expected to open in 2019.

The Swedish songwriter and producer has won five Grammy Awards and written or co-written 22 US Number 1 hits since 1999, making him the third most successful songwriter after Paul McCartney (32) and John Lennon (26).

His hits include: Baby One More Time (Britney Spears), I Kissed a Girl (Katy Perry), Shake It Off (Taylor Swift), Can’t Feel My Face (The Weekend), Since U Been Gone (Kelly Clarkson) and Can’t Stop the Feeling! (Justin Timberlake).

Drawing on this back catalogue, the untitled project is written by playwright and screenwriter David West Read (Schitt’s Creek), with orchestration by Bill Sherman (In The Heights), choreography by Jennifer Weber (The Hip Hop Nutcracker), and Luke Sheppard (In the Heights) to direct.

Workshopping begins early 2019 with an out of town opening slated for July 2019 ahead of a move to London’s West End. The casting call notes that applicants must be available through until the end of 2020.
