Netflix Cancels Red Carpet For Bird Box Movie

Out of respect for the victims of the devastating California wildfires, Netflix cancelled Monday night’s AFI Fest red carpet treatment for the premiere of Susanne Bier’s movie Bird Box at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

The film is set in the near future where a mother (Sandra Bullock) and her two young children have survived an alien invasion which has driven mankind to violence and decimated the world’s population.

Now the family must undertake a perilous two-day river journey blindfolded through a post-apocalyptic world to the one place left that may offer sanctuary, relying on their wits and keen hearing to survive…

Netflix said: “Our hearts are with the victims, families and brave first responders for both the Borderline shooting and California Wildfires. In light of these tragedies, we will be cancelling tonight’s red carpet coverage for Bird Box.”

“The screening will continue as planned. We thank you in advance for understanding and encourage you to support one of the many organisations who are helping those impacted.”

Bird Box will be available to stream on Netflix and opens in selected theatres on 21st December 2018.
