Netflix Orders Straight To Series Remake Of Maniac

The Paramount TV / Anonymous Content remake of Norwegian comedy Maniac has been given a ten episode straight-to-series order by Netflix. As previously reported, the project will star Jonas Hill and Emma Stone, and be directed by Emmy Award winner Cary Fukunaga (True Detective).
Maniac follows the adventures of Espen and his friend Håkon, who exists only in Espen’s head. They live quite happily together until psychologist Mina arrives on the scene to treat Espen’s illness.
The original TV2 drama, from Lilyhammer producer Rubicon TV, is written and directed by Håkon Bast Mossige and Espen Lervåg who also star in the show.
Ole Marius Araldsen, Creative Producer of the original Maniac and Drama Development Manager at Rubicon TV, said to VG:
“We are of course very pleased. Right now Netflix is the largest player in the market, and they get the biggest and best people, so this could not be better… I guess that we can expect that the series will be getting ready to appear in Autumn 2017, but not before that.”
