The movie is set against the backdrop of a social media poll to determine who the country would be better off without. When three of the highest voted candidates disappear, Detective Inspector Kari Sorjonen (Ville Virtanen) is called in to investigate the hate crimes.
Executive producer, Matti Halonen, said: “It is truly excellent that we have signed a worldwide distribution agreement with Netflix which means that probably for the first time ever, a Finnish-language film will be shown all over the world, from US to Australia.”
Bordertown – The Mural Murders, directed by Juuso Syrjä, begins filming in and around Helsinki next month. It is slated for a Finnish theatrical release in Autumn 2021.
