Nicole Kidman will star in a series adaptation for Amazon Studios of Maria Sødahl’s feature Hope (Håp), which represents Norway in the race for Best International Feature at the 93rd Academy Awards in April.
The movie explores what happens when someone is given three months to live. Anja (Andrea Bræin Hovig) and Tomas (Stellan Skarsgård) share a home with each other and their children, but over the years they have grown apart. So when Anja is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer the day before Christmas, their neglected love is exposed as their lives break down.
It is not known how closely the series remake will follow the movie, but it is described as a complicated, blended-family drama that chronicles twelve days of a family Christmas during which a marriage unravels. However, it is ultimately a story about falling in love again.
On 9th February, Norway will discover whether Hope has made the shortlist of ten films for Best International Feature at this year’s Oscars and the final five nominees will be revealed on 15th March. The 93rd Academy Awards will be presented on 25th April 2021.
