Ólafur Darri Ólafsson As Bipolar Prime Minister

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Trapped) is set to play the Prime Minister of Iceland in eight part political drama The Minister (Ráðherranum), directed by Arnór Pálmi Arnarson (Ligeglad) and Nanna Kristin Magnúsdóttir (Cubs).

The series follows Benedikt Rikhardsson, whose unorthodox approach to politics finds favour with the nation and leads to him becoming Prime Minister. However, he is concealing a bipolar disorder and, after he takes office, his decisions become increasingly erratic as his condition deepens.

Arnór Pálmi Arnarson said: “Nanna and I have worked extensively together, but this will be the first time that we have directed together. It’s great to have Ólafur Darri as prime minister and we feel sure that he will make his mark on the character. There are few actors who can play a role like Darri.”

Nanna Kristin Magnúsdóttir added: “Preparing for The Minister has been a fun and creative process and I am very excited for the future. I and Arnor are quite different directors but make a solid team.”

The Minister begins filming in Reykjavík next spring and will premiere on RÚV in Iceland. Rights already secured for its Nordic neighbours.
