Oscar Contender Darkland Wins Best Film At SVEND

At a gala evening hosted by Ditte Hansen and Louise Mieritz in Svendborg on Wednesday, Fenar Ahmad’s action thriller Darkland was declared Best Danish Film at the 13th SVEND Awards, which were voted for by the public at kino.dk.

Darkland, which was shortlisted as Denmark’s entry for the Oscars last week, follows a successful heart surgeon (Dar Salim) who becomes a masked avenger and takes on Copenhagen’s criminal underworld to avenge the murder of his brother.

Meanwhile, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Trine Dyrholm were named Best Actor and Best Actress for their roles in Oscar shortlisted You Disappear, about a school headmaster accused of theft whilst suffering from a brain tumour. Neither attended the ceremony but Lie Kaas did make an appearance via Skype.
