Pernilla August Unlocks Secrets Of Blackwater

SVT has ordered six-part crime drama Blackwater (Händelser vid vatten), to be adapted by Maren Louise Käehne (Queen of Hearts) from the best-selling novel by Kerstin Ekman. Pernilla August (A Serious Game) will direct.

On Midsummer’s Eve, 1974, Annie arrives with her daughter in the remote village of Blackwater and, on her journey through the deep forest, she stumbles upon the site of a grisly double murder. The case remains unsolved for nearly twenty years, until the day Annie sees her daughter in the arms of a man she saw in the forest that night.

SVT Head Of Drama, Anna Croneman, said: “Developing a novel as iconic as Blackwater into a series, inevitably means taking a huge risk. But with a beautiful script by Maren Louise Käehne, Piv Bernth producing and Pernilla August as director, I’m certain we’re about to make something quite extraordinary.”

Blackwater will air on SVT in Sweden, DR in Denmark, NRK in Norway, YLE in Finland and RUV in Iceland.
