Plans Shelved For Beck’s Gunvald Larsson Spin-Off

In January it was reported that production company Nexiko was in advanced negotiations for Mikael Persbrandt to reprise his role as Gunvald Larsson in a spin off from Beck. Unfortunately, rights issues have put an end to that for now.
In the rumoured project, Gunvald Larsson would have left Stockholm CID to work for Europol. There he would lead a task force to tackle serious organised crime and terrorism. However, the show’s main focus was to be Gunvald’s personal life and the toll that the years had taken on him, leaving him an emotional wreck.
Unfortunately, the rights to use characters portrayed in the Beck franchise are held by Filmlance so any potential Gunvald Larsson stories would require their approval. Lars Beckung , founder of Nexiko, told Aftonbladet:
“The project is over. I can’t go into the exact details… It is a complex chain of rights where all parties must believe that it is a good idea. Right now it seems that the door is closed. But you should never say never.”
