Eighteen months after August’s death, the Krogh family tries to find a way back to the everyday. Each family member is using different strategies, especially Emilie who has distanced herself.

Elisabeth visits a clairvoyant in the hope of contacting August. And she tries to get Johannes to talk about their son; unaware that Johannes is headed down a self-destructive path.

The sale of Brovang Church causes a stir in Lindegård. To Johannes, God has never seemed more far away, which worries Svend, who has noticed that Johannes’ passion has waned.

For the entire Krogh family, the new year means change. The loss of August has created distance between Johannes and Elisabeth, and if their marriage is to survive, some truths must be shared.

Svend suffers a relapse in his drug abuse but doesn’t want help. Johannes and Elisabeth insist on intervening when they see how bad a state he’s in.

Elisabeth brings a sceptical Johannes with her to a clairvoyant, where she receives a message that turns her life upside down.

Amira and Walid disagree about the parenting of their daughter Safiyah. Johannes is happy about being grandfather to young Anton but this causes him to do something that could have huge consequences.

Christian is struggling to write his thesis and is forced to face the fact that he needs help. He looks for inspiration in August’s old diary and finds something about which August never spoke.

Christian finds August’s documents from when he was deployed as an army chaplain. This sends him off on a journey back to the time just after August’s death.

Christian visits Jerusalem to find the place where August wanted his ashes buried. During a conversation with the bishop, Johannes realises that Anton’s baptism has huge consequences.
