Soapy Serial Killer Thriller Hammarvik Renewed

Viaplay has renewed soapy serial killer thriller Hammarvik (Lyckoviken), created by bestselling Swedish author Camilla Läckberg, for two more seasons having smashed viewing records for a Viaplay Original with its first two seasons in 2020 and 2021.

Set in the small community of Hammarvik, the series follows police officer Johanna (Disa Östrand) who returns to her home town for her mother’s funeral but, when the body of a young woman is found in the boot of a car, Johanna is drawn into the investigation and confronted by old memories, conflicts and relationships. As the series continues, the secrets and desires of the inhabitants of the small Swedish town Hammarvik will be more explosive than ever.

Camilla Läckberg said: “The response to Hammarvik has been like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I get asked for a new season almost every day, which is why I’m so excited to reveal that both a third and a fourth season are on the way. Since I’m involved, there will of course be a crime to solve, and no let up in the intrigues among the people in Hammarvik.”

Viaplay Chief Content Officer, Filippa Wallestam, added: “Reviving the Nordic soap opera with a noir twist came at just the right moment for Viaplay viewers. With its multiple engrossing plotlines, familiar characters and a devious mystery to unravel, `Hammarvik’ has been hugely successful during these challenging times, and has also brought new audiences to streaming for the first time. Together with Camilla, we will make the coming two seasons even more unmissable.”

Hammarvik seasons three and four are written by Camilla Läckberg, Lovisa Löwhagen and Jessika Jankert, and filming is due to begin this summer in Vänersborg in western Sweden.
