Sofie Gråbøl Joins Lone Scherfig For Ella’s Watch

Internationally renowned filmmaker Lone Scherfig (Italian For Beginners) returns to Denmark for new TV2 hospital drama Ellas vagt (Ella’s Watch) with Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing) set to star. The series is created by Lone Scherfig herself, who also serves as lead writer and will direct two episodes.
The series follows a team led by senior midwife Ella (Sofie Gråbøl) who help a generation of mothers and their relatives each and every day. Everyone who passes through the ward face crucial moments in their lives and leave forever changed.
Lone Scherfig said: “My ambition is for a quality drama that feels moving and can contribute to the narrative of our society both politically and at a human level. We are in the maternity ward at a brand new super hospital, a pulsating eternity machine – where it seems chaotic but creates life and reflects today’s Denmark.”
TV2 Head Of Drama, Katrine Vogelsang, added: “Lone is the right person to film such a large and ambitious public service story about one of the cornerstones of our society, namely hospitals. And she can make it both dramatic, authentic, humorous, touching and life-affirming, so that it is something we can all reflect upon.”
Ellas vagt, which begins filming this month, is expected to premiere in 2022 on TV2 Danmark and has already been sold to TV 2 Norway, TV4 Sweden, C More and YLE Finland.
